BTEC Grade Calculator Updated!

Looking for the old version of this script? A working backup is available here.

UPDATE! This tool will soon be updated to take into account changes in the recent years. Stay posted!

UPDATE! This tool can now process grades from level 3 90-credit type courses!

Please note! This tool only work with edexcel’s QCF courses and WILL NOT work on NQF type course at all.

This tool allows you to work out your (potential) grade in your current BTEC course. This is an updated version of my previous tool which was made irrelevant by BTEC updating their marking scheme. Unfortunatly for all their students, this new marking system is 10 times more confusing than the old one which in turn makes it even harder to work out your potential overall grade for your course. Because of this, I decided to update my tool and make it as easy for you to use as possible.

The new BTEC grading system works like this:
Each course type has a total amount of credit that is spread out over multiple modules (a module may be worth 5, 10 or 20 credits). For example, a Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma course has 180 credits. You then get a certain amout of points for each module you pass. The amount of points you get for passing a module depends on which grade you achievec for said module(Pass, Merit, Distinction). The awarded points for each modules are then added up to give a BTEC score. This score is then compared to a marking grid and the BTEC averall grade is worked out.

Important!
The number of modules you are undertaking will vary from courses to courses and will depend on the individual value of each module. If you do not know the number of modules you are undertaking or the credit value for all your modules, you will have to find this out. While most modules will be 10 credits, there are some exceptions hence please ask your course leader or find your course in the BTEC course directory(once you find your course, this will be under documents->Specification) if you are unsure.

Finally, to use this tool you simply have to select which type of course you are on (currently only supporting LEVEL 3 BTEC) from the first drop down then select the amount of modules you are undertaking from the second dropdown box.
Fill in your grade (P for Pass, M for Merit, D for Distinction) and the credit value for each module in the freshly generated form that will have appeared below. Once you have thouroughly checked that ALL the infos are correct, simply click on « get my results » and they will magicaly appear on the right hand side of the form. Leave any questions or feedbacks at the bottom of this page :)
Enjoy!
